The acquisition, announced on April 15th, is seen as a significant milestone for Russell Group’s expansion plans. The newly acquired terminal sits directly next to the company’s existing Coatbridge operation.

This move is expected to benefit various stakeholders: employees will gain new career opportunities due to company growth and service diversification; customers can anticipate improved logistics experiences with faster deliveries through multimodal solutions; and the environment will see a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions as the company shifts towards rail freight, aligning with their goal of achieving net zero by 2040.

The acquisition also sees the creation of a new trading entity, Russell RailRoad Limited. This new company will focus on driving innovative rail freight solutions and fostering stronger collaboration within the Russell Group.

Acquiring the Coatbridge site unlocks new supply chain opportunities. Integrating this asset expands our network, offering customers increased connectivity and faster deliveries. This enhanced efficiency goes hand-in-hand with environmental responsibility, said Russell Group CEO Alan Poulton.

Russell Group founder and Chairman, John G Russell added:

This landmark move furthers our 45-year legacy in rail freight, aligning seamlessly with our commitment to expand eco-friendly solutions for our valued customers.
