Posted drivers in Belgium to earn at least €13.85 per hour for cabotage work

Belgium has introduced a new minimum pay scale for posted lorry drivers conducting cross-trade operations and cabotage operations. Information regarding the new pay rates has been forwarded to Spanish haulage association CETM by the IRU.

According the CETM’s message to members, the minimum rate of pay for posted drivers is far from clear.

It says the minimum pay varies according to 10 different factors, and that hauliers will need to fill in questionnaires on the functions14003.be website to determine what level of pay their drivers are entitled to.

Among the factors referred to in the questionnaire are the level of licence held by the driver, the extent to which the driver is involved in loading/unloading and other work, and the number of addresses he/she is delivering to.

The absolute minimum is €13.85, with grades 2, 3 and 4 being €14.33, €14.5 and €14.66 respectively (rounded up to the nearest cent).

How this will be policed, however, remains unclear.

Recall that under the conditions of the EU Mobility Package, truckers conducting cross-trade operations and cabotage operations should be paid at least the legal minimum salary for lorry drivers applicable in that country.
