The contraflow, implemented as a contingency measure due to expected high Easter passenger numbers, has been in operation on a 13-mile stretch of the M20 between junctions 8 (Maidstone) and 9 (Ashford).

To ensure safety during removal, a full overnight closure is planned. The London-bound carriageway from Junction 9 to 8 and the coastbound carriageway from Junction 7 to 9 will be closed from 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 7th, until 6:00 am on Monday, April 8th.

Clearly signed diversion routes will be in place on the A20 to guide drivers while the M20 is closed.

Following the removal of the contraflow system, both carriageways will reopen with three lanes each and the national speed limit reinstated.
