In a press release, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges writes that the lorry park is fenced, illuminated and equipped with CCTV. It also has Wi-Fi and sanitary facilities, with snacks and drinks available from vending machines.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges hopes that the new facility will put an end to trucks having to park in all kinds of troublesome spots in the region of the port.

The lorry park can be found next to the Avia petrol station and the base of Transport Roosens NV.

The lorry park cost around €10 million, €2 million of which came from EU funds.

The operators of the port have also said that at least 10 fast 300kW chargers for electric trucks will soon be installed at the new lorry park.

Commenting on the news, Annick De Ridder, Port Alderman of the City of Antwerp and Chairman of the Board of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, said:

“This new truck parking is excellently located near current and future container terminals on the Left Bank of the Scheldt. The Ketenis parking area will provide better comfort and greater safety for truck drivers. Moreover, thanks to its electric charging capacity, this parking will become an essential link in electric truck transport between the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge. Our port is the economic engine of Flanders. The more sustainable that this engine runs, the better!”
