Writing about the case on Facebook, the trade union explained that the guilty party was a road transport firm based in Telsiai that employs 53 staff.

It is said that the road transport company violated several laws at once. The union writes that the haulage firm illegally hired workers from abroad, did not fully pay full salaries, daily pay and holidays, and incorrectly applied daily allowance payments.

However, three lorry drivers who had been deceived by the aforementioned haulier made the Lithuanian Carriers Trade Union aware of some of these issues.

The union then took up their case and went to the Lithuania’s Labour Dispute Commission. As a result, the truckers were able to receive the wages they were due; they received €12,454 in compensation for unpaid wages over an 11 month period.

Keen for other drivers to come forward, the Lithuanian Carriers Trade Union said it “encourages drivers not to be indifferent” and said that drivers should “not tolerate unfair behavior from their employers”.
