HGV traffic on German roads increased for the first time in months

The Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM, formerly BAG) in Germany has published HGV toll statistics summarising the second month of this year. Lorry traffic on German toll roads has increased for the first time in a long time.

In February 2024, truck traffic on toll roads in Germany increased by 3.2% compared to the same month last year. This is the first monthly increase in total mileage since June 2023.

At that time, however, BALM recorded a result of only 0.1% higher than the previous year.

German trucks travelled 3.2% more kilometres than last year. As for foreign lorries, Polish trucks with a mileage of 636.5 million km in February increased their mileage by 3.5% year-on-year. Lithuanians recorded a double-digit increase in mileage – with a result of approximately 118.5 million, they improved the results from the previous year by 10.1%.

As for the cumulative result for the first two months of this year – the total mileage amounted to 6.48 billion km, 1.5% more than in the same period of 2023. In January and February, Germany observed a slight but still increase – by 0.9%. Polish carriers, however, improved their results from January and February last year by 2.7% and Lithuanian trucks over 7.5 t travelled 10.1% more km in Germany during this period.
