When logistics and fashion collide: DHL unveils “courier-inspired” handbags

Parcel delivery might not seem like the height of fashion, but try telling that to logistics giant DHL, who has turned to renowned Malaysian fashion designer Christy Ng to produce a collection of DHL-branded, “courier-inspired" handbags.

In an a press release regarding the unusual announcement, DHL said the ‘DHL x Christy Ng’ collection was “inspired by the DHL couriers who have delivered reliably for her every day despite the pandemic”. The materials used the handbags themselves are said to be both sustainable and high-quality.

The designs, which are aimed at both men and women according to DHL, are described as “bold and eye-catching”. DHL’s logo, parcel labels, delivery vehicles and brand colors are all incorporated into the collection, which is available in Christy Ng’s online shop ChristyNg.com.

The handbag featured in the image above costs around €31, with DHL shipping to Europe around €21.

Commenting on the launch of the collection, Christy Ng said:

“I wanted to pay tribute to all DHL employees who work tirelessly to get us through these difficult times. Being in the fashion business during the pandemic has been a real challenge and made us rethink how to sell our products.”

The designer then went on to add: “Yellow also radiates joy and self-expression, another message we value dearly.”

Meanwhile, Anil Gautam, Managing Director, DHL eCommerce Solutions Malaysia, said that “Now anyone can proudly show off their favorite delivery service”.

Naturally, the bags are like to be something of  a desired taste. Even so, it’s not often you see the worlds of parcel delivery and fashion collide in this manner.
