HGV driver and haulier fined combined total of €170,000 over drivers’ hours violations

Germany's road traffic police have issued enormous fines to a lorry driver and haulier due to serial drivers' hours violations made over several months.

According to a statement by Polizei Mittelfranken, a Turkish-registered lorry on a journey from Istanbul to Dortmund was recently stopped in Erlangen. During the check that followed, several violations were detected.

The driver was found to have exceed his daily and weekly rest periods on numerous occasions. Over the last 29 days, violations worthy of a €2,801 fine were found.

The driver’s employers must also pay €8,393, while an on-the-spot fine of €1,000 was taken from the driver at the time of the inspection too.

Moreover, by analyzing the tachograph data for the period between the start of last August and the 18th of March this year, numerous violations were identified. For these serial breaches, the police state the driver must pay €42,812  and the entrepreneur €128,429.

All the data concerning the violations has been sent to the department of BALM (formerly BAG) in Bremen.
