The driver was arrested on August 13th after causing an accident at the entrance to the Huisseau-sur-Mauves parking area on the A10 motorway near Orléans.

According to reports in France, the Polish driver crashed into the rest stop’s entrance barrier before also hitting another truck. As a result of the impact, hundreds of litres of diesel gushed out of the lorry.

Given the hot temperatures on the day, and the fact the lorry was transporting a load of paper, the fire brigade had to take the precautionary measure of evacuating the rest area.

The driver who caused the accident had travelled from Spain and was found to be almost 6 times over the legal alcohol limit.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt as a result of the accident. Vinci Autoroutes, who operate the rest stop, nonetheless estimated the damage caused by the drink-driving lorry driver will cost thousands of euros to repair.

Besides driving well over the limit, the lorry driver also flouted a HGV ban. He was sentenced to 8 months of imprisonment. After his release, he will also be banned from entering France for another 8 months.
