Dachser is set to strengthen its position in the European food network by acquiring Frigoscandia AB, one of the top providers of temperature-controlled and frozen food logistics in the Nordic region.

According to a recent press release, the acquisition, which is subject to European competition authorities’ approval, is part of Dachser’s strategic initiative to expand its geographic coverage.

Expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2024, the acquisition involves Dachser obtaining Frigoscandia AB from Mutares SE & Co.KGaA, a private equity investor.

Frigoscandia, founded in 1948 and headquartered in Helsingborg, Sweden, is a leading full-service provider in temperature-controlled and frozen food logistics. With a workforce of 1,300 employees across Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and the Netherlands, the company is projected to generate revenue of EUR 300 million in 2023.

Frigoscandia’s network encompasses domestic transport in Sweden, international transport covering 51 global markets, and warehousing with 12 facilities in Sweden and 3 in Norway. The acquisition builds upon the companies’ existing partnership in the European Food Network, emphasizing their cultural alignment and commitment to quality in food logistics.

„We are broadening our Dachser Food Logistics reach to the Nordic markets, reinforcing our status as a leading European provider in food logistics.” said Burkhard Eling, CEO of Dachser

Upon completion, Frigoscandia will be integrated into the Dachser Food Logistics Network and report to Alexander Tonn, COO Road Logistics and Managing Director of DACHSER Food Logistics, effective January 1, 2024.

Peter Haveneth, CEO of Frigoscandia, and his management team will continue to lead the company, aligning with Dachser’s long-term, strategic orientation.

The acquisition will not impact existing structures in Denmark and the Netherlands within the European Food Network. With no duplicate structures, all Frigoscandia AB employees will transition to Dachser.

This strategic move enhances Dachser’s presence in the Nordic markets, complementing its existing operations since 2005 and contributing to the company’s ongoing growth and commitment to reliability and quality in food logistics.
