The Astigarraga Comprehensive Transport Center (CIT Astigarraga) has been awarded the European Truck Parking of the Year by the European Secure Parking Association for Trucks (ESPORG).

While the centre received recognition for its exceptional level of security and surveillance as well as its quality facilities and services since its inauguration back in December 2021, the award ceremony took place on Wednesday, 1st March, 2023 during the Annual General Assembly held at the European Parliament in Brussels.

CIT Astigarraga is owned and operated by the EYSA Group, which is a concessionaire of the service. It is part of ESPORG, the group of companies, road transport associations, and public entities from all over Europe that collectively work to promote HGV parking and service zones with the highest levels of safety, quality, connectivity, and maintenance.

CIT facilities comply with the strictest European regulations and procedures, providing advanced services and the highest level of security, with a gold level security certificate from the European Union.

This award comes at an ideal time, one year after the centre’s inauguration, to introduce the facility to European truckers and establish CIT Astigarraga and Guipuzcoan roads as references for safe, connected, and intelligent roads throughout Europe, says  Aintzane Oiarbide, Deputy for Road Infrastructure..

The deputy highlighted that the award aligns Gipuzkoa and Euskadi with Europe, emphasizing the 15 million euro investment made in this infrastructure by the provincial council.

The award also consolidates Gipuzkoa’s role in sustainability policies, as these investments are made possible by tolls paid by truckers from all regions, not just Guipuzcoan drivers.
