Next Monday, 8 April, exceptional maintenance work will resume in the Mont Blanc Tunnel to renew the road surface in the central part of the tunnel over a length of 240 metres.
This will lead to traffic closures for thirty-two nights on weekdays (excluding weekend nights or nights coinciding with long weekends or public holidays in Italy and France).
Traffic will be closed from 19.00 to 07.30 (from 13 to 18 June, the tunnel will be closed for a shorter period – from 19.30 to 06.00 the following day).
The work is expected to be completed on Tuesday 18 June.
This will be followed by an exceptionally long closure – from 23:30 on Wednesday 19 June to 6:00 on Friday 21 June (lasting 30 and a half hours).
The work in the tunnel consists of replacing the elements of the bridge that support the roadway, under which the ventilation ducts are located. The technical solution chosen will allow the work to be carried out mainly at night, thus allowing traffic to continue during the day. Over 10 weeks, the road surface in the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely renewed over a total length of approximately 1,700 metres in the central part of the facility, according to the tunnel manager, GEIE TMB.
