Milence announces second electric truck charging station in France

Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group, has announced the construction of its second electric truck charging hub in France. Strategically located near Perpignan, the hub will offer charging infrastructure along a key logistics route connecting Spain with France and Northern Europe.

The opening of this new facility follows the launch of Milence’s first French charging hub near Rouen in April 2024. Both hubs contribute to Milence’s goal of a fossil-free future for European road transport by establishing a network of ‘green corridors’ specifically designed for electric trucks. These hubs address not only the energy needs of electric vehicles but also aim to enhance the overall rest and recharge experience for drivers

The new hub is located within Perpignan city limits, approximately 40 kilometres from the Spanish border. This positioning places it within a key industrial zone for regional and European fruit and vegetable distribution.

Construction will occur in phases, with the first stage targeted for completion in September 2024. This initial phase will prioritise the construction of charging infrastructure alongside essential amenities for drivers, including toilets and showers.

Three CCS (Combined Charging System) charging points will be installed, capable of powering six bays and delivering up to 400 kW of power – enough to get electric trucks back on the road quickly. A future expansion phase plans to introduce additional MCS (Megawatt Charging System) points, significantly boosting charging speed and overall hub capacity.

The hub will be open to all electric trucks regardless of brand.

“We are thrilled to expand our network and announce the development of our second charging hub in France,” said Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence. “This strategic location in Perpignan strengthens our presence along key corridors, supporting the transition to electric road transport between major logistics hubs in southern France and Spain. Each new development is a significant step towards our goal of building a sustainable charging infrastructure across Europe.”
